About Us

Welcome to www.nipponcraft.com!
We are the online gift-shop located in Tokyo, and we provide Japanese traditional handmade-crfats to overseas customers.

Our activities

We would like to share the beauty of Japanese traditional crafts with the world. Our shop deals authentic Japanese crafts. We deal traditional fabric, paper and wood works such as Noren door curtains, Tenugui hand towels, Furoshiki wrapping cloths, Kinchaku bags, and Sensu hand fans. We have personal relationships with artisans and producers of these Japanese crafts. We deal genuine Japanese products that meet with our standard to ship them to the world. We have our stock in our warehouse and we can ship your order right away. We are NOT a "drop-ship" paper catalogue shop.
It is often the case that Japanese crafts artisans do not speak other languages and that they do not have sales channels to foreign countries. They often work for Japanese domestic market. Some are still clumsy using internet and are not very good at communicating internationally. We contribute to bridge between these artisans' products and world markets.

As for shipping fare, we offer flat-fee to each destination from Japan. In many shops, a shipping fee increases as you buy more. We have come up to the conclusion that this kind of system is complicated both to customers and to us. So, we fix a shipping fee to the lowest level of our package weight. As you buy more, you can save more international shipping fare from Japan. The shipping fare of exceeding weight is complimentary. We ship your parcel via Express Mail Service equipped with damage insurance and with a tracking code. Your parcel will be delivered to you by the postal service company in your country.

Not only providing products, we would like to propose how Japanese crafts can be applied to western living for wonderful living.

We visited New York and attended Japan street fairs in 2011, 2012 & 2013. We tried to communicate with many people directly to understand western customers' thoughts and we feedbacked them to our shop operation.

Our vision

We need to respect each other culture. At the same time, it is true that we find difficult to live in different cultures. Foreign culture is nothing to be forced. However, some are fans of foreign culture. For example, many Japanese adore French and Italian cultures and enjoy their fashions and interior. Many Japanese introduce Irish and English potteries to enhance their livings. Many Japanese young people enjoy American fashion and music. Some Japanese are particular about Florida grapefruits and Australian oranges. These foreign products are not, of course, Japanese origin but worth to enhance living standard. Following the same theory, some of the Japanese cultural products should be worth for western living.

Exporting too much automobiles and electrical products have a risk of loosing jobs of other countries. For example, US has a great ability of manufacturing and supplying automobiles to its own citizen, why should US import automobiles form Japan? If one nation imports so many products that can be manufactured in that nation, that will lead to a trade conflict. Our vision of fair trade is to exchange products that cannot be manufactured in each country. Exchanging cultural products to the fans is a great model of fair trade.
